- Uncommon Leader Insights – In the latest episode of The Uncommon Leader Podcast, I had an insightful conversation with Jessica Papineau, a fashion stylist and founder of CSJ Styling. Here are three key takeaways from our enlightening discussion that I could SEE:
Surpass Your Limits: Jessica’s message on her virtual billboard was profound—”You never know what your limits are until you surpass them.” She emphasized the importance of continuous growth and learning to live our best lives and make a meaningful impact on the world. You can push yourself beyond perceived boundaries. Growth occurs when we push past our comfort zone.
Embrace Your Pain: Often our purpose is found in our pain. Jessica shared an inspiring childhood story of her passion for fashion, even when it wasn’t nurtured in her off-grid upbringing in Maine. This passion evolved into CSJ Styling, where she now helps women align their clothing with their aspirations and boost their confidence. As she explained, only 25% of her work is about physical appearance; the remaining 75% centers around mindset shifts. Too often we allow past bad experiences to set our limits, rather than using those times to light a fire under us.
Envision Your Future: Have you ever taken the time to write down what you really want? Jessica’s practical advice for curating personal style begins with envisioning your future. This principle can be a powerful guide in areas of life, such as your faith, friendships, finances, and more.
Surpass, Embrace, and Envision – Three words that can help you to SEE what is possible if you adopt a mindset of positivity and optimism.
Jessica’s journey and insights encourage us all to embrace our unique strengths and continually grow towards the best versions of ourselves.. You can catch the entire inspiring conversation I had with Jessica here.

- Think Positive – These words from Job Gordon’s book, The One Truth, should give you some ways to turn a negative into a positive:
When you start to feel entitled of complacent, focus on appreciation
When you feel fear, remind yourself that love casts out fear and focus on loving the process rather than worrying about the outcome.
When you feel lost, pray for guidance.
When you feel weak, pray for strength.
When you want to give up, remind yourself how far you have come and where you are going.
When you are facing a challenge, find the opportunity to learn and grow.
When you are going through a difficult time, tell yourself to stay on the roller coaster and trust that the adversity will build your character and strength.
Through all your daily challenges keep thinking with faith and hope. Hope for the future gives you power in the present. Keep believing and trusting that the best is yet to come. When you elevate your thinking, you elevate your soul and life.
I don’t know about you all, but I must fight some of these negative thoughts every single day. A few of the ways I fight this is to stay in constant growth mode by reading and reflecting on scripture, reading inspirational books, listening to inspirational music and podcasts, and surrounding myself with others that hold me accountable and don’t allow me to feel sorry for myself! By sharing some of the things that I am learning with you, the reader of the Brew, I am hopeful that you are impacted in a positive way as well.

Chapter Thirteen – “One More Inconvenience”
This week’s chapter personifies the journey I have been on for many years when it comes to physical and spiritual health, as well as my daily leadership development habits. Mylett argues that true growth and achievement lie on the other side of inconvenience.
Think about it. Have you ever achieved something truly remarkable by taking the easy route? Probably not. Growing yourself or your team, developing deep relationships, or achieving your optimum health all require sacrifice and stepping outside our comfort zones. The inconvenient early mornings and the disciplined commitment to healthy habits are just a couple of inconveniences that transform us.
Mylett suggests that it’s about a mindset shift in that rather than avoiding the “inconvenient” as an enemy, we see it as a necessary ingredient in the recipe for greatness.
Let’s face it, achieving uncommon results is rarely a convenience. But, those very challenges are what make the victories so much sweeter. The extra effort to cook healthy meals or show up for that friend in need – these “inconveniences” pave the way for a more impactful life. One of the many inconveniences I have embraced is that I must travel for work more than I would really want to each month. Generally, these inconveniences don’t use impact me and I am grateful that my wife and family have accepted some of those inconveniences as well. That is a direct reflection of their character and their level of love for me.
Convenience might feel good in the short term, but it’s the path of least resistance that leads to mediocrity. Embrace the “inconvenient” – it’s the catalyst to a life of greater achievement and fulfillment.
Next week: One More and Defining Leadership
Quote of the week: “There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in something you only do it when it’s convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” – Ken Blanchard
