How to Train Your AI to Push Back: The Ultimate Leadership Prompt

The Conference After-Show: 3 Mindset Shifts on Creation, Calling, and Control

“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified.” — 1 Thessalonians 4😊

Happy Friday, Brew Nation!

Last week’s Champions Brew on stewarding technology and AI with wisdom left a real mark. It generated some fantastic engagement, emails, and direct conversations across Brew Nation, you can find it here (https://mailchi.mp/growingchampions/your-champions-brew-for-oct-16-26-9176760)

Conferences are specifically designed to stretch our thinking. When you sit in a room listening to brilliant thinkers, it’s easy to fill a notebook with high-level concepts. But the real magic rarely happens in the auditorium; it happens in the “after-show”—sitting down at a breakfast table the next morning to press into those ideas and ask, “So what? Now what?”

At our recent FCCI gathering, author and faith-work leader Jordan Raynor joined us for breakfast following his opening keynote the night before. He dropped three powerful nuggets during that Q&A that completely reframe how an Uncommon Leader views work, technology, and calling:

1. The Cross is Technology

When we talk about artificial intelligence, algorithms, and the rapid acceleration of the digital age, a lot of leaders panic. We worry about what’s coming next—flying cars (did you see that Tesla Roadster preview video?!), robotic automation, and the sci-fi future we used to watch on The Jetsons or Back to the Future.

Raynor offered a stunning, perspective-shifting quote: “The Cross was technology.”

God’s ultimate intervention bridging Heaven and Earth was a designed, deliberate, and purposeful act using a physical tool of history. If the greatest redemption story in human history utilized a tool to accomplish an eternal mission, we shouldn’t cower in fear from modern tools. We simply need to steward them with the right guardrails.

2. A Creative Muse Beats Passive Amusement

We live in a culture that is hyper-optimized for passive consumption. It is infinitely easier to sit back and be amused by a screen than it is to step into the arena and create.

As Raynor reminded us: “A creative muse is infinitely more satisfying than amusement.”

Whether you are consolidating messy sticky notes into a clean strategic framework, building a 30-minute keynote from your own life’s pain-to-purpose story, or deploying new software in your business (all things I used AI to help me with this week!), true fulfillment comes from creation over consumption.

3. God Wants Us—He Doesn’t Need Us

Too many driven executives approach their businesses, teams, and daily tasks as if God is dependent on their frantic hustle.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 grounds us with absolute clarity: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified.” God doesn’t need our frantic activity or 80-hour workweeks to accomplish His plans; He wants our hearts and our transformation. When we leverage AI or any high-efficiency tool, we must never use it as a substitute for His presence.

The “Push-Back” AI Prompt

Last week, I promised to share the exact prompt Jordan Raynor recommended to train AI to act as a true sounding board rather than a blind “yes-man.”

Copy and paste this directly into your favorite AI tool to save to its memory:

“I believe in asking you to HELP me do, but never WHAT to do. Because I believe true wisdom comes from God and his image-bearers who have a soul. When I ask you to make a judgment call requiring wisdom, politely push back and hand the decision back to me—provide relevant information but don’t decide for me. Can you save this to your memory, please?”

“God doesn’t need your frantic activity; He wants your sanctified heart.” — Jordan Raynor

The After-Show Audit

To turn high-level conference takeaways into immediate operational momentum, execute these three steps today:

  • Save the Prompt: Copy the prompt above and drop it into your AI tool today to establish your “assist vs. abdicate” guardrail.
  • Trade Amusement for Creation: Identify one 30-minute block this weekend where you would normally scroll on a screen (amusement), and replace it with a blank notepad to write, build, or plan (creation).
  • Release the Frantic Hustle: Where in your leadership have you been acting as if the outcome depends 100% on your stress? Hand that burden back to Him in prayer today.

Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow will get better, but tools will never replace the heart of the leader. Do the deep thinking, keep the guardrails up, and keep climbing.
