- Uncommon Leader Insights –Throughout our lives, we encounter moments that drive us to reevaluate our journey and refocus our intentions. Episode 127 with Real Talk Kim Jones brought profound insights worth reflecting on. Here are my three key takeaways:
- Embrace Discomfort for Change: Kim Jones eloquently discussed that change isn’t mere wishful thinking; it’s about waking up our minds to do something different. Real growth happens when we embrace discomfort and break free from our comfort zones. This can be immensely challenging, yet it’s a critical step in continuing our personal evolution. Think about moments in your life where stepping into discomfort led to significant progress. By consistently choosing growth over comfort, we align ourselves with our higher purpose and potential.
- Share Your Story: Kim shared a poignant story illustrating how her coaching and prayer calls transformed someone’s life, helping them overcome adversity and regain health and success. This story underscores the transformative power of sharing our experiences. Every individual’s story has the potential to inspire others and create a ripple effect of positive change. Kim encourages us all to embrace and share our unique narratives, fostering deeper connections and shining a light on pathways to healing and success.
- Practice Self-Compassion: A recurring theme in our conversation was the importance of self-compassion. Kim advocates starting anew at any point in life and embracing one’s purpose without shame. She reminded me that as long as there is breath in our lungs, there is opportunity. We need to extend ourselves grace and recognize that no past mistake can disqualify us from pursuing our calling. This perspective not only fosters inner peace but also empowers us to take consistent action towards fulfilling our true purpose.
Each takeaway is a step towards becoming an uncommon leader.

- Read More – Here we go. We are traveling together on a journey with an inspiring speaker, and author, Ed Mylett, and his book “The Power of One More – The Ultimate Guide to Success and Happiness”. As an avid listener of Mylett’s podcast, I’ve been thrilled to revisit this great book that holds a special place in my Top Ten influential reads. Join me as we uncover wisdom within its pages.
Chapter Nineteen – “One Last One More”
We have reached the end of The Power of One More. As we have spent the last 18 weeks together reviewing each chapter, I hope that at least one of them has impacted you. But, I believe it was chapter 19 that impacted me the most. He clearly saved the best for last.
One Last One More is about finding the meaning behind doing what you do. It’s about identifying the reason you bound out of bed each morning ready to attack the world. Difficult, challenging, or sometimes tragic things happen to everyone and there will come a time in your life when these things happen to you. As Mylett eloquently stated, this is not meant to depress you. It is meant to create a sense of urgency in you and also remind you that things are happening FOR you and not TO you.
In my coaching, I talk about step one in personal transformation being the decision to choose the discomfort of change over the displeasure of remaining the same. Linking huge emotional reasons for what you want to accomplish is critical in helping you to overcome the struggles associated with change. I call this your ‘SO THAT’. That SO THAT must be overwhelmingly more significant than the obstacles you face SO THAT the obstacles seem small.
You are not where you are today by accident. You have been put on this earth to make a difference. The greatest story ever told is s story you are writing right now. Someone in your life is going to be asked to write down the names of the people who have made a positive difference in your life. To the individuals whose names are written on those lists, that is the Greatest Story Ever Told. The question that we as leaders should be asking ourselves is ‘Who is going to write my name on their list?’ Identify those individuals now and then intentionally build that relationship to ensure that you have made a difference.
Next week: OK Any book recommendations for the next review?
Quote of the week:
“Faith is to believe what one has not seen. The reward of faith is to see what one has believed.”
What You Need to Do:
Call to Action: One Last One More is not about controlling the end, but about controlling the story in-between. If you’re going to make a difference, what are you waiting on?
