What You Need to Know

  • Quote: “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally.  It comes from what you do consistently” – Marie Forleo

A big amen to that. One of the biggest challenges I come across when coaching growing leaders is not their desire to succeed, but their ability to do what it takes over and over to be successful.  What are some ways you can implement the disciplines?

  • Understand your why – If you know ‘why’ you want to be successful, it makes the task feel less of a burden.
  • Put the disciplines in your calendar – You have to make time to do the things you have to do
  • Get an accountability partner – Enlist someone to help hold you accountable.  You will be less likely to skip if you have to tell an accountability partner (or a coach!) your progress
  • Exercise Daily: One of the habits I try to do every morning is to take the dog for a walk.  It’s good for her AND for me.  Rosie is 6 years old and is our rescue pup.  The walk used to be miserable for both of us!  She would pull and tug to the point that she choked herself and I felt bad and I assume the neighbors wanted to turn me in!!  Then,  I came across this ‘jacket’ that wraps around her and she walks so much better now.  Frankly, I have no idea why it turned out better for her, but it has been a blessing and made the walks more enjoyable for her (and me!).  Maybe you can try it out.  Here is a link and here is a picture of Rosie as well in her jacket:

See how happy she is!!

  • Read more:  I believe that leaders are dealers in hope.  They have to help to explain reality, BUT they also must be optimistic!  Here is a good blog post from John Maxwell that outlines Four Signs of a Leader of Hope A few takeaways from me from John’s post:
    • Leaders look for the BEST in a situation
    • Leaders of hope look for what is good, noble, praiseworthy, inspiring (Sound like a verse you know?  Philippians 4:8)
    • Leaders of hope nurture relationships
    • Our world is leadership ‘sad’ today.  Our world NEEDS leadership ‘joy’:
      • Leaders who unite, not divide,
      • Leaders who inspire, not de-motivate
      • Leaders who build bridges, not burn them
      • Leaders who deal in Hope, not despair

To become Champion leader, we have to be on a continuous improvement journey for ourselves and others.  We have to be able to take advantage of the precious seconds that we have each day.

There are things that I come across each week that help me, inspire me, relax me, motivate me, and are sometimes are just funny that I want to share with you so that you can smile more, build faith, think positively, network well, exercise often, eat healthy, and grow daily.
